All services such as ATMs, post office, pharmacy, handicrafts are 10 km away in the town of Riola Sardo. The main town of Oristano is 20 km away. We are in the Sinai Coast, then 20 km from the beaches of Is Aruttas, Mari Ermi, Putzu Idu, S'Anea Scoada, Sa Mesa Longa and Capo Mannu for surfing enthusiasts. You can rent bikes and canoes 2 km away in the town of Santa Caterina di Pittinuri. You can eat excellent fish and taste the famous bottarga (mullet roe) and the vernaccia, local white wine, in the municipality of Cabras. The Sinis is a paradise of nature where extraordinary cultural testimonies are disseminated. It is here that a farmer plowing his land of Monte'e Prama discovers the Giants: dozens and dozens of extraordinary stone giants of 3,000 years ago that can now be seen at the museum of Cabras.
In the small Sinis are concentrated extraordinarily intact natural ecosystems that make this territory suggestive; alternate landscapes of sea water and lagoon, sand dunes and unique beaches like that of Is Aruttas; the sand is almost blinding because it is made up of transparent quartz grains and veiled in blue for the reflection of the sky and the sea. The Sinis shows itself this way, shining and silent beaches, often a cordon of dunes separates them from a rich network of salt pans and ponds. The largest is that of Cabras surrounded by other smaller ones. In these lagoons the colors change, from white beaches to green, purple, red algae: the silence becomes a nice noise of the many cormorants, herons, hawks, kingfishers and pink flamingos that live here and reproduce by the thousands, a party for birdwatchers and also for lovers of horseback riding among the tongues of sand that divide the waters of the ponds.
Small villages and villages give a particular character to the Sinis; in front of the beaches there is a surreal village with low houses in the far west style and unpaved roads that come alive for the patron saint's day; around the church of San Salvatore nine days of folk dances, roasts of porceddus, mullet and Sardinian fregola handmade with semolina flour and cooked over low heat with local clams. Do not miss the delicious bottarga made from mullet roe caught in Cabras and worked with the same technique learned from the Phoenicians. But the symbol of the party is the barefoot race that recalls the rite of barefoot running with the statue of the saint to be protected from the Saracen invaders from the small village of San Salvatore to Cabras.
The village of San Giovanni di Sinis with its old wooden shacks and rushes used by locals during the summer months, is instead located on the extreme tip of the peninsula. Among these humble houses is the oldest church in Sardinia; for the enchantment that surrounds it, the small church of San Giovanni seems to be surrounded by a mysterious charm, the same that is found in the Punic cities of Tharros, a few steps from here. A tip, come to us at sunset.
